• Question: Iron is a rock, how does it help our body?

      Indeed a lot of iron molecules form a rock, but in the body it’s really smaller units of iron that is present. We need iron to make heme (that’s what makes red blood cells red) to bind oxygen.

      We need a particular type of iron, known as ferrous iron (Fe2+) which can be from haem in meat or as iron salts in other foods. It’s main use is as Theresia says is in haemoglobim in blood, it also works a number of important enzymes in our bodies
