Losing weight quickly is not thought to be a good idea, some people argue aiming just to lose weight may not be a good idea. The key thing is eating healthily and being more active. If you need to lose weight then it should happen slowly as a result of a healthier lifestyle.

not recommend at all!!! the best way to loose weight is to do it slowly and in a controlled way…by doing so there are more chances to keep the weight off and not regaining it all or even more when people stop dieting!!

I would think of it in terms of energy balance. So a combination of the amount and type of food we take in (energy intake), in relation to the amount of energy we use in day-to-day life (energy expenditure). So excess body weight occurs when energy intake is far greater that energy expenditure. This happens from a combination of eating too much of the wrong types of food, a lack of regular exercise and to some extent genetics (i.e. how an individual responds to alterations in diet/exercise). Severe/rapid weight loss just doesn’t work as it is not sustainable, really unhealthy and should not be considered. The right approach is to look to gradually regain energy balance over time by increasing your energy expenditure through regularly doing exercise and reducing energy intake by making better choices in the food that is eaten.
