• Question: how does smoke affect their lungs

      The lungs are fantastic as they are delivering the oxygen from the air into the bloodstream so that we can get oxygen to all the organs in the body. When you breath in the smoke it is making the air less pure and making the lungs work harder to get to the oxygen. Then all the pollutants in the smoke once taken out of the air stay stuck in the lungs as they have nowhere else to go. When you see photos of lungs from smokers compared to healthy individuals they are black from all the pollutants left behind from the cigarette smoke.

      Also cigarette smoke contains chemicals which are carcinogens. These can change our DNA in our lungs and cause mutations. These mutations can allow cells to grow uncontrolled, this is how Cancer develops
