      lovely question!

Well it is not really the hormones, but rather the fluctuation of the hormones over the menstruation cycle. We have different types of hormones going up and down all the time and I’d like to think the brain, which receives communication signal from the hormones, can get a little confused to juggle all of the fluctuation and life stress.

It is not only change in female hormones that may effect mood, a number of hormones may have that effect, so I think it can efffect boys as well as girls

Hormones are a really sensitive mechanisms for the body to send messages between tissues and organs. Different combinations at different times can effect mood and all kinds of physiological and behavioural responses. I think everyone can be effected by hormones amplifying normal responses. So stress, moodiness, being grumpy are all common things that can happen at different times.
