It is large pieces of dead skin, smaller bits would not be seen. It can be caused by many things, including allergies, stress or dried out scalp

Dandruff is created from dried pieces of skin that flake off from your scalp. So some people are more prone to others if their skin is particularly dry.

It can also be caused if we have a skin infection or irritation on the scalp, or if we get sunburnt and the skin dries up and flakes off to allow the new skin to grow through.
