One part of the eye is called iris and according to the amount of pigments in this part of eye, people can have brown or dark eye. The pigmentation depends on the amount of melanin in the cells, and melanin is also responsible for the colour of our skin……the way the light is reflected by the “stroma” in the iris, another part of the eye, is responsible for the different shades of colour. The appearance of blue and green, as well as hazel eyes, results from the scattering of light in the stroma, a phenomenon similar to that which accounts for the blueness of the sky.
