It probably isn’t our skin and gut do a great job keeping them out. It is just when some get in our immune system cannot always recognise them and destroy them effectively

That’s because the most of the germs are considered as foreign object. Our immune system generally dislikes foreign objects because they are more than likely harm us in one way or another (hijacking our nutrients, using our body to breed, releasing toxins, etc.). Our body has a lot of bacteria in the gut and skin too, but these bacteria are purposefully exempted by our immune system because they benefit us. To some extent, they can also help us to fight harmful germs!

Germs love using other animals to live off as they can get all the food and warmth that they need without having to do much work. Our body has a lot of systems to try and protect the vital organs from disease and infection. So this sensitivity is important as it means that the response happens quicker so that the body can get rid of the germs as quick as possible.
